JAPANESE LANGUAGE TRAINING
Lingua Science creates customized programs for American professionals
to learn Japanese for work and travel. We provide experienced teachers
for small classes or one-on-one instruction at your office.
Classes and tutoring include regular progress reports and testing/evaluation
as desired. Classes and tutoring can be as structured or unstructured as you
like.
What is key is that you enjoy studying the language and feel
confident
using what you learn.
We will provide an estimate of the
number of hours needed to reach
the desired level of competency.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE TRAINING
Lingua Science provides ESL (English as a Second Language) instruction to
foreign professionals who seek to improve their English. We dispatch only
experienced instructors with advanced degrees in teaching English as a
Second Language.
Since each business professional arrives in the U.S. at a different level, our
instructors first meet briefly with the professional to assess his or her needs
and customize a lesson plan and course materials. We do not rely on standardized tests (TOEFL, etc.) because these tests do not always accurately
convey a person's ability to communicate in spoken English, and do not
assess a person's skill at making presentations, using English in a
management position, and so on.
ESL instructors provide periodic progress
reports. Testing or evaluation can be conducted upon request.
Our goal is that the student himself and those around him be able to easily observe continuous improvement in English skills.
Special Lingua Science programs for university groups
In August, 2006, we expanded our English Language Training program to university-sponsored groups. In cooperation with Waseda University in Tokyo, we planned and hosted a special, month-long training program for three Waseda engineering students. All of the program activities, including class work, field trips, and living arrangements, were designed to help the students improve their ability to comprehend and speak English in a natural setting. As part of the program, the students toured Japanese and American manufacturing facilities, visited both big cities and small towns, and took part in typical American life. If you are interested in such a program for your university students, please get in touch with us for a proposal.
ACCENT REDUCTION
Our accent reduction instruction is provided by a speech therapist trained in the specific technology of analyzing and improving accents. Accent reduction occurs not only at the word level, but in phrases and context-specific speech.
The speech therapist customizes the program for each individual, working with actual work documents and presentations, and when possible, video or tape recordings of the student's interactions with coworkers.
Noticeable improvement can usually be achieved in as little as eight to ten hours.
